Performance Management Primer

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Michigan Public Health Institute have updated the Embracing Quality in Public Health: A Practitioner’s Performance Management Primer!

The Primer has laid a foundation for performance management within state, local, tribal, and territorial health departments across the nation. This free online course was developed by public health practitioners for public health practitioners to introduce the basic principles of performance management, describe how performance management is used in public health, and provide tools to start implementing performance management in your agency.

This self-paced course is broken up into six modules and is estimated to take approximately an hour and a half to complete. The Primer includes: engaging activities to assist in your learning; recap exercises to test what you have learned; and examples throughout to show how performance management has been applied in public health practice. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate of completion for evidence of staff training in performance management.
